Another in Glynn Cardy’s series of ‘affirmations’.
I believe in happiness.
I believe laughter, art, caring, and music
have the power to knit us together –
connecting us, liberating us, strengthening us –
making and marking us as a joyful community,
which knows and nurtures goodness.
Goodness that needs to be shared.
I believe in goodness.
I believe that when neighbours share food,
when strangers look out for each other,
when streets are safe for kids to play,
when we are kind to everyone,
then goodness like a puriri grows,
it’s branches sheltering us all.
I believe in hope.
I believe even in the worst of times,
when I can’t see it, and no one is there to help,
there is something guiding us on.
I hear it in the rivers, forests, songs of the hills.
I hear it in happiness, goodness, solidarity.
I trust in hope. A touch of God.
This I believe.
